Since 1935, The Wilderness Society has protected America’s wilderness, where humans are part of the web of life, not master of it. Since the Wilderness Act passed in 1964, we’ve gained permanent protection for 109 million acres of wilderness. Our work continues, using science, economics and collaboration to protect America’s unmatched legacy of parks, wildlife refuges, forests and other public lands.
